Public debate on amendments to Law on International Expo 2027

The Government of the Republic of Serbia announced that the Draft Law amending the Law on Special Procedures for the Implementation of the International Specialised Expo Belgrade 2027 will be submitted for public debate.

The aim of the public debate is to conduct additional consultations and provide the public with the opportunity to give proposals and suggestions in order to further specify the proposed amendments to the law.

The draft law enables the implementation of a project that has been declared a project of importance for the Republic of Serbia, whose implementation represents a general interest of importance for the overall economic development of the country.

The decision to withdraw the law from the parliamentary procedure will be presented at the next session of the Government, after which the competent Committee for Economy and Finance will make a decision to conduct a public hearing, which will be published on the website of the Ministry of Finance.

According to the aforementioned dynamics, the public hearing will be held during the month of June.

The Law on Special Procedures for the Implementation of the International Specialised Expo 2027 was adopted by the National Assembly in October 2023.

In order to further implement the project and construct facilities for the implementation of the Expo Belgrade 2027 project, the proposed amendments to the law aim to ensure that a specific type of facility and accompanying infrastructure, which enables the holding of an international exhibition in accordance with the already internationally undertaken obligations of the Republic of Serbia in terms of organising the relevant international exhibition, are built in a manner that meets the maximum standards related to safety, as well as to provide additional support to local self-governments in terms of the renovation of facilities that are in the function of implementing the Expo Belgrade 2027 project.
