Harmonisation of agricultural regulations with EU standards

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Professor Dragan Glamočić, PhD, discussed today with Head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia Ambassador Emanuele Giaufret, the process of European integration in the field of agriculture and key issues related to Cluster 5, i.e., Chapters 11, 12, 13.

The officials also discussed the challenges regarding the infectious foot-and-mouth disease present on European soil, as well as its impact on international trade in animal products, in the context of the measures that Serbia is taking to effectively protect itself from the spread of the infectious disease on its territory.

Glamočić said that in the coming period, the Ministry will work more intensively on harmonising regulations with EU regulations in all chapters for which it is responsible, as well as on more efficient implementation of the IPARD programme.

Also, as he stated, the Ministry will work towards improving the conditions of mutual trade in agricultural and food products, primarily through strengthening the administrative capacities of the Ministry, more intensive dialogue and communication with the competent institutions of the European Union and the EU Delegation to Serbia.

Giaufret stressed the need for urgent resolution of obstacles to trade exchange and increasing the efficiency of the use of IPARD funds, recalling that only 56.6% of available funds were used within the IPARD II programme.
