Market information system for agriculturalists expands and improves

The Serbian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management stated today that AGRO-SMS service has expanded its network and improved its service as of July 1.
AGRO-SMS is a distribution system providing information on prices of fresh fruit and vegetables in the wholesale greenmarket.
This service was available only for users of the Telekom Srbija network, but has now been extended to become available for users of all mobile phone networks in Serbia: 062, 063, 064 and 065, reads the statement.
Apart from the already established Serbian System of Market Information, where the distribution of market data is made through television and electronic and printed media, AGRO-SMS service enables agricultural producers and companies in Serbia to find out prices of fresh fruit and vegetables in seven wholesale green markets in Serbia and Europe through their mobile phones, via SMS text messages.
AGRO-SMS service is a joint project of the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management and the Project for Development of Entrepreneurship of the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The idea of the system is to help farmers follow market trends, recognise opportunities in the market of fresh fruit and vegetables, and plan their production.
Users of AGRO-SMS obtain an SMS with the latest prices of fresh fruit and vegetables from wholesale green markets in Belgrade, Nis, Kraljevo, Paris, London, Hamburg and Rotterdam, after they send an SMS with the appropriate code to number 2299.
