Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said yesterday that the sentence pronounced by the Hague Tribunal regarding Naser Oric not only has nothing to do with court practice and justice, but it openly ridicules justice and laughs at innocent victims.
In a statement to Fonet agency, Kostunica recalled that cooperation with the Tribunal was the reason why the successful and for Serbia highly significant negotiations on EU accession were called off. This means that the Tribunal in The Hague is not only the highest legal instance, but also the standard setter and distributor of justice when it comes to war crimes, he added.
Courts can be trusted only if they equally treat all men and pass judgment on all crimes using the same standards. The Hague Tribunal was envisaged as the ultimate instance of international justice, but after this sentence it is turning more and more into its opposite, into a symbol of injustice, concluded the Serbian Prime Minister.
