Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met today with Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark, who is currently on his first visit to Serbia.
During the meeting, Đurić stated that this historic visit will further contribute to the continued development of the traditional friendship between Serbia and Egypt, the strengthening of ties between the Serbian and Coptic Orthodox Churches, and the affirmation of harmonious relations between Christian and Muslim communities in both countries.
The Minister pointed out the constant threats faced by the clergy and believers of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo and Metohija, noting that approximately 150 churches, monasteries and other holy sites have been destroyed, damaged or desecrated over the past 20 years alone.
The head of Serbian diplomacy conveyed gratitude to friendly Egypt and His Holiness for understanding the importance of protecting and preserving the Orthodox and cultural heritage of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija.
