Continuation of talks, full partner relations with EU necessary for Serbia

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica talked today with ambassadors of EU member countries and said that it is essential that Serbia continues negotiations and establishes full partner relations with the EU.
Kostunica stressed that the solution to the future status of Kosovo-Metohija must be based on the respect of international law and European values.
According to Kostunica, Serbia is ready to grant essential autonomy to the province within Serbia, adding that this solution is in line with Resolution 1244 of the UN Security Council.
He also pointed out that the solution to Kosovo status must not be imposed but come about as a result of a compromise, which is also stated in the Contact Group's principles. While seeking a solution to the province's status, regional stability must not be disregarded, he added.
Ambassadors of EU member countries agreed that a compromise solution to Kosovo is a must, adding that the stability of the Western Balkans region is of great importance to the EU.
