Kostunica said that after October 5, 2000 we believed that the time of setting conditions was finally behind us.
We can remember, among other things, all those immoderate promises given regarding the extradition of some Hague indictees, the Prime Minister said.
He pointed out that Serbia is an old European state, which for the most part of its long history contributed to the establishment of those lasting principles and values which are the foundation of Europe and of the entire international order.
I really believe that it is high time that that fact was acknowledged and that Serbia’s commitment to building partnership relations with Europe was accepted with trust, Kostunica said.
We understood that after October 5 the time has come to build partnership relations with the European Union, the Prime Minister said, which must entail full respect for Serbia’s dignity.
According to us and every sensible criterion, a partnership relationship means that one partner does not set conditions to the other, but cooperates with him, and that one partner does not exert pressure on the other one, but that they jointly establish criteria that should be fulfilled, the Prime Minister said.
According to Kostunica, Serbia does not ask for assistance and privileges, but for impartiality and equality.
Serbia expects that a true partner relationship based on trust be established and that a policy free from conditions and pressures finally be conducted, Kostunica concluded.
