Several policemen and fans injured in basketball game

The Serbian Ministry of Interior stated that on Thursday evening at a basketball match between Partizan and Red Star a fight broke out between the police and Red Star fans in the Pionir sports hall, in which 9 policemen and 18 fans were injured.

The incident broke out during a break between the third and fourth quarter of the game, when Red Star fans attacked the police, throwing broken chairs at them, metal rods from broken fences, bags filled with urine and activated firefighting devices.
During the commotion, some twenty fans fell onto the sports grounds, but despite that they continued to attack the police, the statement reads.
Since the basketball match was halted, while leaving the sports hall, fans of both teams continued to attack the police in the streets around the hall, throwing rocks and other objects at them.
During the incident, several police vehicles were damaged, four buses of private and public bus operators and of the Belgrade police, as well as several cars and shops.
The police detained 30 persons, of whom four are under legal age, against whom appropriate legal measures will be taken, the statement concludes.
