Kostunica pointed out that there are certain rules and principles in the international order, such as inviolability of integrity and sovereignty, which are the basis of that order and of the Charter of the United Nations.
He said that in places with a multi-ethnic composition, a solution is sought through their internal organisation and a certain level of autonomy.
Serbia has proposed one such solution, the negotiations in Vienna are underway, but it turns out that it is easier to change internationally recognised borders in the Balkans, than borders of some municipalities in the process of decentralisation in Kosovo, Kostunica warned.
Putin thanked the Serbian Prime Minister for accepting the invitation to participate in the meeting that is being held in Saint Petersburg.
The Russian President told Kostunica that he is interested in latest developments in the region and Montenegro, and in Belgrade's cooperation with Podgorica.
Following the meeting with Putin, the Serbian Prime Minister told reporters that he is very satisfied with the talks which he described as "long, analytical, thorough, open and friendly," and "of extreme importance in this important moment."
Kostunica said that the main topic of the meeting was the future status of Kosovo-Metohija.
According to Kostunica, principled positions of President Putin and Serbia's positions were compatible on many issues, if not all of them.
