Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today at a meeting with a delegation of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference that the relations between Serbia and China are very good and traditionally friendly, and that China has always showed understanding for the problems Serbia has been facing.
During the meeting with the Chinese delegation led by Conference Chairman Wang Zhongyu, Kostunica stressed that when searching the solution for Kosovo's future status the basic principle of international law has to be respected, and that is the preservation of sovereignty and territorial integrity of every state.
The Serbian Prime Minister said that only respect for basic principles of international law guarantees stability and peace, not only in the region, but in the whole world.
Wang Zhongyu said that China endorses respect for the UN Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 1244, and pointed out that China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, will have a constructive role in the resolution of Kosovo's status.
He highlighted that Serbia and China cherish very friendly ties and China attaches great importance to relations with Serbia.
The meeting especially focused on further development of economic relations between the two countries. Concrete forms of cooperation in various fields were discussed and both sides expressed interest in intensifying economic cooperation.
Serbian Minister of Economy Predrag Bubalo and Minister of International Economic Relations Milan Parivodic also participated in the talks with Chinese officials.
