Vojislav Kostunica
In a statement to the Tanjug news agency, Kostunica stressed the importance of a positive atmosphere that has arisen and the agreement of all political parties, as well as the general public, that it is in Serbia's interest to get a new constitution.
Pursuant to the Constitutional Charter, Serbia will now take over the state union's legal continuity and become its successor state, said the Prime Minister.
"Serbia continues its state continuity that has lasted for two centuries, since it started re-establishing its modern statehood as far back as 1804", he said.
According to Kostunica, all institutions that Serbia will take over as a successor state must function in line with the existing Constitution until the new constitution defines their status.
He stressed that according to the Constitution, the President of the Republic is now head of the armed forces and the amendments to the Law on ministries will more closely define the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defence.
"Serbia as the state union's legal successor and the Republic of Montenegro will soon efficiently deal with all issues regarding their mutual relations", said Kostunica.
