Vojislav Kostunica
After talks with EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana today, Kostunica stated that what he said about the Montenegrin referendum is still the stance of the Serbian government, but added that it will not in any way imperil relations between Belgrade and Podgorica.
Kostunica said that he and Solana discussed the delay of Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) talks. The Serbian Prime Minister said that is was not a good decision and that he cannot see any explanation for such a move.
Six years after October 5, 2000, instead of partnership relations between Serbia and the EU, we witness more pressure and conditions, where a whole country depends on one man, said Kostunica and noted the attitude of one man who does not want to turn himself in to the Hague tribunal makes one whole people his victim.
He said he believes that even those last obligations regarding the cooperation with the Hague tribunal, would have been solved more easily had there been a partner-like relationship with Serbia.
Kostunica told the press that at his meeting with Solana he reiterated that the solution to the Kosovo-Metohija issue is a huge and serious test for Europe, which will show whether the issue will be solved in line with the principles of international law, with the respect of sovereignty and territorial integrity, and according to European standards that demand that in case of certain ethnic conflicts, the solution be sought in a specific type of autonomy.
Javier Solana
Solana said that the EU's wish and intention is to build as deep and constructive a relationship with Serbia as possible, because Europe will never be complete if Serbia does not become a member of the European family.
He stressed that Brussels is impatiently waiting for the moment when Serbia will find its proper place in Europe, adding that the EU will strive to make this come true as soon as possible.
He said that today's meeting with Prime Minister Kostunica is another step towards further better cooperation between Serbia and the EU.
