The Serbian Ministry of Interior stated today that timely and effective action by the department of protection and rescue of the Ministry of Interior (MUP) and the fire brigade of the Secretariat of Interior (SUP) Belgrade, yesterday brought the fire in the Namenska part of the Prva Iskra chemical plant in Baric under control in record time, thus preventing a catastrophe of major proportions.

According to the statement, the entire activity of extinguishing the fire and dealing with its consequences was carried out solely by members of the MUP, without any participation or cooperation by other responsible services – Serbian Directorate for Defence and civil defence teams, who joined the action later.
Within six minutes of the explosion in the Namenska part of the factory, the fire brigade of Belgrade and Obrenovac reached the scene of the accident, and 18 fire brigade vehicles and 52 firemen took part in extinguishing the fire. In less than an hour they brought the fire under control, which had started following an explosion. Members of the MUP then immediately intervened to remove any possibilities of a further chain of explosions.
The accident left three factory employees dead. The inspection of the incident that began yesterday will continue today, conducted by the investigating judge, with the assistance of special teams of SUP Belgrade, reads the statement.
