Opening the Fifth international raspberry conference held in the Cigota hotel on Mount Zlatibor, Dulic-Markovic said that the raspberry is a Serbian brand and that its production is a pillar of rural development in some areas.
The Minister said that in order to boost raspberry production it is necessary to enable the continuation of the trend of positive growth in this sector and improve its profitability by changing the export structure, with better quality through integral and organic production and as great as possible export of fresh raspberries.
This conference, which is being held for the first time in Serbia, will last from May 30 to June 1. It has been organised by the Serbian business association of cold storage plants and the International Raspberry Association, under the auspices of the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management.
Apart from Serbia-Montenegro, members of the International Raspberry Association include Chile, Canada, the US, Poland, Russia, Hungary and many other countries.
The previous four conferences were held in Chile, the US, Hungary and Australia and this year Serbia has got the exclusive right to organise this event.
The conference was opened by speeches of chairman of the managing board of the Serbian business association of cold storage plants Rade Ljubojevic and President of the International Raspberry Association Antonio Dominguez.
This event is expected to be attended by 150 participants from 15 countries, and on the second day of the conference visits will be made to plantations of the company Malina Produkt from Pozega, Jugotrade from Arilje and plantations of the cold storage plant Sirogojno Company from Sirogojno. On the third day, visits will be made to raspberry growers in the municipality of Ljubovija and to plantations of the Libertas company from Sabac.
