In the talks with Massari, Minister Stojkovic said that it is not disputable that the judicial power in Serbia should be divided from the legislative and executive.
The preparation of the new Serbian Constitution does not impede the drafting of new judicial laws, said Stojkovic. The working groups are bringing to an end the preparation of key laws which will be harmonised with European standards.
By changing the laws, the executive power has been left without any possibility to influence the work of the courts, and the judiciary bodies gained independence. Now it is their turn to prove that they are capable of working independently, the Minister said.
Massari said that the strengthening of the principle of division of power is a large step forward, adding that the international community will strongly support all efforts by the Serbian government and the Ministry of Justice to secure the practical implementation of laws.
