Serbia, Slovenia determined to improve mutual relations

Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met in Ljubljana with Prime Minister of Slovenia Robert Golob, expressing the hope that in the coming period, a joint session of the two governments will be held, where additional opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest will be considered.

He spoke about the worrying situation in Kosovo and Metohija, where the unilateral actions of Albin Kurti led to flagrant violations of the human rights of the Serbs.

Bearing in mind that Belgrade will host the specialised exhibition Expo 2027, the head of the Serbian diplomacy assessed that it will be a good opportunity for Slovenian companies to take part in the implementation of our capital projects.

In a conversation with Chair of the National Assembly of Slovenia Urška Klakočar Zupančič, Đurić emphasized the importance of regular and substantial inter-parliamentary cooperation for the development of the quality of bilateral relations.

He said that Serbia is determined to strengthen and deepen relations with Slovenia, stressing that this country is one of our most important political and economic partners.

The head of Serbian diplomacy stated that Serbia attaches great importance to regional initiatives and forums for strengthening cooperation and development, and, in this context, pointed to the very significant engagement of Slovenia within the Brdo-Brijuni process and the Berlin process.

Informing the interlocutor about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, Đurić reiterated that Belgrade is a constructive partner in the dialogue with Priština, but also underlined that the constructiveness of one side is not enough to find mutually acceptable solutions.

Also, Đurić spoke today in Ljubljana with Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia Tanja Fajon.

At a news conference following the meeting with Fajon, Đurić pointed out that Serbia and Slovenia have a long history of relations, and that the Serbian and Slovenian peoples cherish an even longer tradition of mutual ties.

He emphasised that Serbia is very grateful to Slovenia for its continuous support to the EU’s enlargement process to encompass the countries of the Western Balkans.

The Minister informed the interlocutor about Serbia’s intention to fully implement the Reform Agenda adopted by the government by 2027.

Đurić also stated that he briefed the Slovenian counterpart on the difficult position of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija.

Fajon said that the friendly relations between the two countries rest on solid foundations and that Serbia is an extremely important economic partner and regional actor for Slovenia.
