President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić invited the scientific community to participate in the discussion about the Jadar project and to express their opinion supported by facts.
At a meeting with representatives of the scientific community about this project at the Palace of Serbia, attended by Prime Minister Miloš Vučević and members of the government, Vučić said that he expects everyone to join the discussion on the Jadar project, first of all the scientific community.
According to him, representatives of the scientific community are expected to be professional, to use their knowledge and participate in dialogue, to talk to people, so that this topic is completely transparent.
For us, scientific facts are of crucial importance and we will not start this project without the consent of the scientific community. The improvement of the material condition of citizens can never be at the cost of the health of a single person, the president repeated.
He emphasised that society needs a multidisciplinary approach, civil courage to talk to people who have built-up attitudes that they have acquired by informing themselves on social networks and that it is not easy to change beliefs, whether they are for or against.
Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Jelena Begović emphasised that the issue of the environment is of fundamental importance for citizens, but also for science, which can play an important role in this topic.
Science should be a leader in establishing valid facts based on data because it deals with and is based on constructive critical thinking and proposes solutions, Begović said.
The Minister reiterated that it is in everyone's interest that the environment in which we live together be under the least possible influence of our activities, which are inevitable, from agriculture, waste generation, to the presence of various industries and technologies.
