Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica has sent greetings to His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Pavle, bishops, the clergy, the monks and believers of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the country and the diaspora over the holiday of Christ's Resurrection.
“I particularly wish to extend heartfelt Easter greetings to the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija, behind whose faith, courage and dignity the entire Serb nation stands united. In conditions in which their basic rights to life and freedom are threatened, they have become guardians of the land, holy heritage and the unique historical memory of many generations of the Serb nation in which the traditions and customs of Kosovo have always had a special and important place. Sacred sites and monuments of culture such as the Patriarchate of Pec, Decani, the Bogorodica Ljeviska Church and the Gracanica Monastery are of special value to our entire nation.
Any attempt at forcing a solution for our southern province and breaking international principles cannot bring good to anyone. As a state and nation who has stepped into the community of European nations, we are open to dialogue and agreement on such autonomy of the province as is known to Europe.
The Easter message of peace, joy and faith in lasting values and true virtues strengthens the hope that hardships and transient obstacles can be overcome and consolidates our strength in the pledge for justice and fairness.
I wish everyone to spend this great and joyous holiday of Easter in peace, spiritual happiness and good health. Christ is risen!” reads the greeting of the Serbian Prime Minister.
