The Serbian Ministry of Energy and Mining stated that linking of Austrian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Slovenian and Serbian gas systems and further development of the regional gas infrastructure could have an important role in establishing global energy stability not only for southeast Europe, but the whole European comunity as well.
The two officials pointed at the importance of further implementation of the Contract on forming the energy union. They exchanged information about the most significant energy gatherings in the forthcoming period – conferences in Munich and Athens which among other things will be devoted to private investment in the energy sector.
Busek said he is also interested in the opportunities for lignite exploitation in Kosovo-Metohija. The reserves of lignite in the province are an extraordinary energy source but the exploitation will largely depend on the results of talks on the province's future status, concludes the statement.
