The Ministry of Justice announced today that at the tenth conference of the contracting states of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which was held on 11-15 December in Atlanta, the Resolution on the Protection of Whistleblowers was adopted, which was prepared by the government of Serbia.

In the proposal of this document, Serbia stated that in the contracting states of the Convention, it is necessary to adopt regulations on the protection of whistleblowers, which will provide adequate protection against retaliation or other unfair treatment to persons who reveal certain information related to illegal behaviour.
It was pointed out that the right to whistleblowing is a human right, which protects freedom of speech and is important for strengthening the rule of law and the development of the countries that are parties to the Convention.
The adoption of the Resolution at the conference in Atlanta recognised and confirmed the best practice that Serbia has in the protection of whistleblowers, which through the adopted resolution will encourage the creation of successful whistleblower protection systems in the 190 contracting states of the Convention.
