The Ministry of the Interior announced today that 16 members of an organised criminal group, charged with trafficking, were arrested in Brazil in an international operation carried out as part of Europol's operational working group "Balkan Cartel".
Members of the Criminal Police Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior, together with other colleagues from Europe and South and North America, through the exchange of operational data, contributed to the breaking up of this group, which smuggled cocaine from Brazil to Europe.
There are grounds for suspicion that the arrested organized crime group was connected to the events of April and August 2022, when 5.7 tonnes of cocaine were seized in Cape Verde and 1.3 tonnes of cocaine in Brazil.
The Federal Police of Brazil, the National Police of Cape Verde, the Directorate of Criminal Police of Serbia, the National Crime Agency of the UK, the US DEA, Europol and MAOC-N participated in the action.
