Serbian Minister of Interior Dragan Jocic met today with Vojvodina’s Secretary of Regulation, Administration and National Minorities Tamas Korhec. The two officials discussed opportunities for realisation of national minority rights in Vojvodina which are under the authority of the ministry.
The Serbian Ministry of Interior stated that the two officials also discussed measures taken and activities undertaken with the aim of increasing involvement of national minorities in the structure of the ministry.
The officials concluded that, among other things, appropriate information gathering in the field and introduction of entrance exams in languages of minorities and courses on human and national minority rights in the Police Academy and training centres will facilitate increased participation of national minorities in the work of the ministry.
An agreement was reached on issuing bilingual application forms for identification cards, in Serbian and in an official language of a minority, with a possibility of entering the full name of an applicant according to orthographic rules of the minority language in question in all ministry issued documents.
Jocic and Korhec agreed on continual cooperation with provincial and local authorities on realisation of the project themed "Safe community" with the aim of strengthening citizens' confidence and developing tolerance, reads the ministry's statement.
