Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said today that the state's intention is to provide additional assistance to citizens in times of economic crisis, just as successfully as it was done during the coronavirus pandemic.
Answering the questions of Serbian MPs, Brnabic stated that, after the examination of the budget for the next year, it will be planned how to continue with the support and assistance in 2024 as well.
She pointed out that, thanks to aid packages during the pandemic, Serbia was one of the 10 countries in the world where employment grew, while people in other countries were losing their jobs.
Apart from financial support, this support is also important as a psychological measure to help people overcome difficult times, Brnabic said, adding that another increase in pensions is planned this year, and then another in January 2024, which is a total increase of approximately 20 percent.
She also referred to the planned salary increase in education, for nurses and technicians and additional one-off aid for families, that is, for children under 16 years old, adding that money for these purposes has already been prepared in the budget.
The Prime Minister said that negotiations with trade unions have been initiated within the Social and Economic Council on how much the minimum wage should be increased and harmonised with the cost of the consumer basket.
Brnabic stated that at the moment the public debt is 51.4 percent of our GDP, and she expressed her hope that the deficit will be significantly below three percent this year, as planned, and that the annual inflation will drop to eight percent.
