Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, met today in London with representatives of alternative investment funds, which invest in startup companies across Europe.
At the meeting, Brnabic expressed her satisfaction that she was able to hear that the representatives of the funds are familiar with the rapid growth of the startup ecosystem in Serbia, as well as that some have already visited our country.
She said that Serbia will continue to strengthen innovative entrepreneurship and promote Serbia and successful young people.
Today, the Prime Minister participated in a panel in the Public Hall called “What is the future of digitalisation?”, where she pointed out that the process of public administration reform in Serbia started from scratch in 2016.
According to her, the starting point was that we had data in electronic form, while our data was 100% on paper, and it had to be transferred to that form.
Brnabic reminded that she became Prime Minister at the end of June 2017 and that then the digitalisation of everything began, including education, and noted that information and communication technologies have now become Serbia's main advantage.
In primary schools, programming is a compulsory subject, we are building science and technology parks and the situation has changed drastically, she pointed out.
The Prime Minister specified that in 2012, IT sector exports amounted to €375 million, and ten years later, in 2022, €2.7 billion, while it is expected to reach €4 billion by the end of this year.
Brnabic also referred to newspapers in the education system, explaining that our schools were not connected to the Internet.
We are working with the European Investment Bank to connect all our schools, even those with a few students, to high-speed internet, and so far we have connected 1,800 schools where children can learn in an innovative way, the Prime Minister pointed out.
Also, as she added, 3,000 teachers have been trained, but we have more training ahead of us, given that teachers must access digital materials so that all children receive the same quality of teaching.
She also mentioned that special subjects in the field of art are being introduced in high schools, because with IT you also have to be creative, and art subjects contribute to that.
Speaking about where she sees Serbia in 10 years, Brnabic underlined that the country will work to ensure that young, highly educated people stay in the country.
