First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic talked in Paris today with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay about the preservation of Serbia’s cultural heritage and the deepening of cooperation.
Dacic, who is on an official visit to France, underlined after the meeting with Azoulay, that Serbia attaches great importance to its membership in UNESCO and that it is important for the sake of preserving our cultural heritage, especially in Kosovo and Metohija.
The First Deputy Prime Minister made a petition to UNESCO to pay special attention to Serbian cultural heritage in Kosovo and Metohija, adding that these facilities are on the List of World Heritage in Danger.
He underlined that it is highly unlikely that so-called Kosovo will receive support for its membership in UNESCO, noting that for us it is good that it is a world organisation and not of Europe, in which most countries recognise the independence of “Kosovo”.
The UNESCO Assembly is being prepared for November. For us it is important that no application of “Kosovo” for membership in UNESCO has been made so far, but that does not mean that it will not happen, the First Deputy Prime Minister stated.
He also said that Serbia has an active role in UNECO because our ambassador to this organisation Tamara Rastovac Siamashvili is also the Chairperson of the UNESCO Executive Board and cooperates closely with Director-General Azoulay.
