Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining Radomir Naumov and his associates attended a meeting today with representatives of Serbian gas and oil companies, Srbijagas and Naftagas respectively. It was agreed that by early March, these two companies should compose a plan and determine the pace of activities for the beginning of construction works on the underground gas storage in Banatski Dvor.

According to a statement by the Ministry, Naumov told his collocutors that it is necessary to continue with the first stage of works on the underground gas storage which is an object of strategic importance according to Serbia's energy development strategy until 2015.
Naumov asked for complete coordination between representatives of the companies and the Ministry with the aim of overcoming current problems and enabling all preconditions in order to urgently begin works on this project.
Naftagas representatives pointed out that the company can complete all works on the gas storage facility in Banatski Dvor and enable normal functioning of and supply of gas to the storage within six months. However, they also stressed the necessity to constitute all executive bodies of Srbijagas to enable unobstructed cooperation between Naftagas and Srbijagas.
Representatives of Srbijagas said they are fully prepared to provide funds for the project. However, they also stressed that if one company finances construction of an object solely from its own sources, the whole project can be considerably slowed down and hindered by the circumstances of the current policy regarding the price of energy sources. This is why other sources for funding the project are also being considered, they concluded.
