President of the Republic of Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou laid this morning, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture Maja Gojkovic, a wreath at the Monument to Rigas Feraios in Belgrade.
After the laying of wreath with military honours, Gojkovic and Sakellaropoulou visited the Nebojsa Tower, which was designated as an immovable cultural asset of exceptional importance in 1979, and the project of revitalisation of the complex was completed in association with the Greek government, which donated the necessary funds.
As part of the tour of the tower, Gojkovic and Sakellaropoulou visited the exhibition on display, which, in addition to the history of the tower, depicts the life of Rigas Feraios, the leader of the Greek movement and fighter for the liberation of the Balkan peoples from the Turks. He was executed in the Nebojsa tower in 1798.
The two officials underlined that the two countries are connected by significant cultural and historical ties, and that culture additionally unites the two friendly peoples.
