According to the statement, the commissioning of the new link is the result of the implementation of the GN4-3N project of the European Academic Network, which was financed by the European Commission.
As a result of the project, the hub of the GEANT network was formed in Belgrade for the first time, and in this way, Serbia became the only country in Southeast Europe, which is not a member of the European Union in which there is a hub of the European Academic Network.
A significant increase in the data transmission capacity of the AMRES network infrastructure enables a better global connection of the scientific research, academic and educational community of Serbia with Europe and the world.
The public information and communication institution AMRES was founded by the Serbian government for the purpose of building, developing and managing the educational and scientific research computer network of Serbia.
This network provides educational and scientific research organisations and other users with access and use of the Internet and IT services in the country, as well as connections with national and international networks.
AMRES represents one of the most significant resources of scientific research and educational work and is the carrier of the development of the information society, the statement added.
