Minister of the Interior Bratislav Gasic met today with EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Oliver Varhelyi, with whom he discussed the implementation of the EU Action Plan for the Western Balkans with special reference to irregular migration and strengthening border management.

On that occasion, Gasic pointed out that the priorities of the Republic of Serbia include the suppression of irregular migration and the protection of the state border, which is supported by the fact that a working group has been formed that works intensively on the suppression of irregular migration, as well as the fight against smuggling and human trafficking, especially on the border with EU countries.
Minister Gasic and Commissioner Varhelyi also discussed cooperation in the area of Negotiating Chapter 24 – Justice, Freedom and Security, especially in the fight against organised crime, terrorism and drug abuse, according to a press release from the Ministry of the Interior.
