Further development of cooperation with UK in field of defence

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Milos Vucevic highlighted today, at a meeting with UK Ambassador to Serbia Sian Macleod, determination to strengthen dialogue at the highest level, which will enable further improvement of cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including defence.

Vucevic expressed deep concern about the development of the situation in Kosovo and Metohija and pointed out that Serbia remains firmly committed to peace, stability and the preservation of dialogue with the Pristina side, which is supported by the call of President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic addressed to the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija during the current crisis to respect KFOR and EULEX.

Pointing out that respect for international agreements is a fundamental principle that must be respected, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that the process of transformation of the so-called "Kosovo Security Forces" into the so-called "Kosovo Armed Forces" is unacceptable for our side, which not only harms the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, but it is affecting the destabilisation of the entire region.

Speaking about bilateral military cooperation, Vucevic expressed his gratitude for the donations handed over by the British side to the Ministry of Defence of Serbia, as well as for the education of members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army in British military educational institutions.

He particularly highlighted the importance of joint involvement in the multinational operation UNFICYP in Cyprus, which represents the crown of military cooperation so far and acts as an incentive to further improve the overall relations between the two countries.

Macleod agreed with the assessment of the importance of preserving the continuity of dialogue at a high level, and at the same time emphasised the interest of the British side in the further development of cooperation in the field of defence with Serbia.
