Strengthening cooperation with North Macedonia in field of energy

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic spoke today, during the Summit of Leaders within the framework of the "Open Balkans" initiative with Minister of Economy of North Macedonia Kreshnik Bekteshi about cooperation in the field of energy, energy security and new projects.

The two officials agreed that solidarity and cooperation in moments of energy crisis, as well as the implementation of joint projects in the construction of energy infrastructure, are key to improving the energy security of all countries in the region, not only member states of the "Open Balkans" initiative.

Mihajlovic pointed out that bilateral cooperation in energy, above all regarding connecting and building energy infrastructure, will mean the development and security of the entire region, especially when it comes to the construction of gas interconnections and new capacities that use RES for energy production.

The cooperation we are promoting through "Open Balkans" and work of the joint crisis management group are the basis for concrete projects, such as the possibility of building a solar power plant, she pointed out.

During the talks, which preceded the meeting of the crisis group for food and energy, there was also mention about the possibilities for energy storage, primarily gas, balancing electricity, as well as the creation of a joint fund for financing future projects.
