Dedicated work of government to support refugees from Ukraine

The Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, which manages the Asylum Centre in Vranje, today hosted representatives of two UN agencies – the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

Coordinator for the South of the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia Slobodan Savovic and representatives of UNHCR and UNICEF visited the Ukrainian refugees housed in this Centre and sent a unique message of solidarity to all forcibly displaced people who found refuge in Serbia.

UNHCR and UNICEF commended the living conditions in the Asylum Centre in Vranje, which is managed by the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration, as well as the efforts made by competent institutions to provide assistance to refugees housed in private accommodation.

Director of UNICEF in Serbia Deyana Kostadinova pointed out that it was really encouraging to see that Serbia welcomes refugees with open arms.

She reaffirmed UNICEF's readiness to support the government of Serbia in providing assistance to Ukrainian refugee children, as well as to all other children on the move who are in Serbia.

Acting Head of UNHCR Office in Serbia Stefanie Krause said that in the meeting with the families of refugees from Ukraine, today in Vranje, they saw what it looks like when refugees are welcomed with open arms and when they are given the chance to join a new society, on for which UNHCR is deeply grateful.
