The participants in the meeting expressed their satisfaction with the recent appointment of jurors of Roma nationality in several courts in Serbia.
The representatives of the Roma National Council informed Stojkovic about the successful realisation of the previously agreed joint visit of the Roma delegation and representatives of the Directorate for Enforcement of Penalties to several prisons in Serbia. The purpose of the visit was for the Roma delegation to ascertain that the rights of Roma inmates are fully respected.
Stojkovic promised the delegation to do everything in his power to enable members of the Roma national minority to apply for the posts of court interpreters in courts where there is a need for their services, as well as for judicial positions, provided they fulfil the necessary conditions.
The representatives of the Roma National Council pointed out that it frequently happens that in different institutions which are supposed to work on improvement of the position of Roma people, as well as on gatherings devoted to the discussion of their problems, there is not a single Roma person.
