Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica received today a delegation of the Roman Catholic Church on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the work of the Belgrade Archdiocese. The delegation was headed up by Cardinal Vinko Puljic, Archbishop of Vrhbosna, Sarajevo.
Kostunica congratulated Belgrade Archdiocese officials on the anniversary and pointed to the importance of Christian values in these lands. He said that churches play a big role in the process of democratisation of society and the cherishing of spiritual values, tolerance and mutual dialogue.
Kostunica said that religious communities in Serbia and Montenegro have very good relations and stressed that the government is committed to full cooperation with churches and religious communities.
Members of the Roman Catholic delegation stressed that the meetings of churches, peoples, cultures and religions contribute to the European integration and mutual understanding in the region. They said that dialogue is a method which has no alternative.
They stressed that the observation of the 80th anniversary of the Belgrade Archdiocese speaks volumes about the sense of unity in these lands.
Serbian Minister of Religion Milan Radulovic also took part in the meeting. The Roman Catholic delegation included Belgrade Archbishop Stanislav Hocevar, Ljubljana Archbishop Alojz Uran and Apostolic Nuncio Eugenio Sbarbaro.
