Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and Ombudsman for Kosovo-Metohija Marek Nowicki agreed in today's talks that standards in the province must be fully implemented, and that with the beginning of the new phase - negotiations on the status, their implementation must not be forgotten.
Nowicki said that the report of the UN Special Envoy for the implementation of standards in Kosovo-Metohija Kai Eide is very important in that respect.
Kostunica thanked Novicki for all his efforts aimed at improving human rights in Kosovo-Metohija, which have been taken away from Serbs and other non-Albanians living in the province.
Nowicki, whose term in office ends this year, pointed out that the institution of ombudsman is one of the most important institutions in the province for the protection of human rights and pointed out that the Serbs and other non-Albanians need to be provided the respect of elementary human rights.
The Ombudsman for Kosovo-Metohija stressed that during his mandate he has tried to present objectively the situation in the province and to help the vulnerable parts of the population in realisation of their basic human rights.
