Kostunica acquainted Ahtisaari with the basic points of the Resolution and informed him about the forming of a single team for the upcoming talks.
Ahtisaari stated the basic principles for talks, recently adopted by the Contact Group, and pointed out that the negotiating process will be held under the auspices of the United Nations, and not individual countries. He also pointed out that, while the province’s future status is discussed, the implementation of standards in Kosovo-Metohija must be continued, adding that the talks on the status are not time-limited.
Kostunica suggested that during his stay in the region, Ahtisaari also meet with state representatives of Serbia’s neighbouring countries Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia, who have put forward principled viewpoints regarding the future status of Kosovo-Metohija.
Kostunica also pointed out that the Serbian side is eagerly waiting the next report of Soren Jessen-Petersen, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for the implementation of standards in Kosovo.
