Prime Minister Ana Brnabic attended today in Uzice the caravan of digital skills, literacy and security "Digital Expedition", which is visiting that city this weekend.
Uzice is the ninth of 16 cities in Serbia where citizens can get acquainted, among other things, with how to exercise a right or fulfil an obligation in electronic communication with the state administration and how to provide themselves and their children with a safe digital experience.
Brnabic, on whose initiative the caravan was launched, stated the fact that 10 years ago, only half of the population of Serbia was electronically literate, but that a lot of progress has been made in that area.
We have done a lot in the technical part to become a service for citizens, but we realised that, in order for it to work, it is necessary to acquaint citizens with what is offered to them and that is why we launched the "Digital Expedition" caravan, she explained.
The Prime Minister said that the goal of the caravan is to acquaint citizens with the electronic public services available on the eGovernment website, the principles of electronic commerce, the basics of safe use of social networks and other benefits of the digital space.
Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Tatjana Matic stated that digital skills are important, not only for everyday communication and personal development of Serbian citizens, but also for the development of digital business and entrepreneurship and overall economic growth.
According to her, since the beginning of the pandemic, electronic commerce in Serbia has increased by 300 percent, and that would not have been possible if the telecommunication infrastructure had not been built.
Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Darija Kisic Tepavcevic pointed out that through this project, a special focus will be on digital literacy of the elderly through trainings in gerontology centres and nursing homes.
We have equipped all gerontology centres with adequate technological equipment that has enabled online communication between home users and their loved ones, which has significantly improved the quality of their lives, the Minister pointed out.
She pointed out that we are now launching a programme of digital education of the oldest citizens and the pilot project will be implemented in 20 gerontology centres, with the support of UNDP.
This project is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, Office for IT and eGovernment, and in partnership with the New Literacy Programme implemented by USAID, Propulsion and UNDP.
