Minister of European Integration Nemanja Starović stated today at the Western Balkans Leaders’ Meeting with representatives of the European Commission in Skopje that Serbia is fully committed to the European integration process.
Speaking at a panel on the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, looking into the state of play, next steps and communication, Starović pointed out that the implementation of the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans is already yielding initial results.
As he explained, Serbia has joined the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) and discussions are underway on expanding the Green Lanes to EU member states, on agreements on conformity assessment and acceptance (ACAA), and on enabling citizens of the region to use “roam like at home” services while in the EU.
He recalled that since 2021, the European Commission has assessed that Serbia is ready to open Cluster 3, which includes competition rules and inclusive growth, noting that the country expects continued support from member states to accelerate this process.
According to him, progress in Cluster 2, which relates to the free movement of goods, services, capital and labour, brings immediate benefits to Serbia’s economy and increasingly integrates the country into the EU’s internal market. For this reason, support from the European Commission to make this cluster ready for opening as soon as possible is of key importance.
The Growth Plan for the Western Balkans is based on a long-term vision of shared prosperity and the strengthening of mutual trust both within the region and with the European Union, the Minister underlined, emphasising that Serbia remains committed to that strategic orientation.
