A joint statement issued after the meeting states that Serbia and the United States of America share a common goal in the fight against climate crisis and have committed themselves to speed up the application of technologies for the production of pure energy and to fulfil their obligations on the path to reaching carbon neutrality by 2050.
Our two countries also share goals of preserving sources of secure energy supply and a just transition for our citizens in the process of de-carbonisation of energy and the economy.
We are trying to cooperate in indentifying and applying solutions for a simultaneous achievement of these common and mutually connected goals.
In the electricity sector, our countries share common challenges and possibilities regarding the replacement of electricity production in the existing fossil fuel power stations, by investing in and producing from new technologies with zero emission of harmful gasses, including renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar energy.
Apart from recognising the need for investing in new technologies for the production of electricity, the Republic of Serbia and the United States of America agree that energy storage is a critical element of energy security, while our countries work on an accelerated development of carbon-neutral energy system.
In the spirit of cooperation, the US Department of Energy and the Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy plan to concretise mechanisms for the application of the most advanced technical expertise and technologies owned by US companies and national laboratories of the US Department of Energy, in order to speed up the energy transition in Serbia, reads the joint statement.
