The donation by the European Agency for Reconstruction is worth €166,000. The other contract concerns a €168,000 loan provided by the European Investment Bank.
Loncar recalled that the Serbian government is committed to helping small and underdeveloped municipalities to grow, which today’s contract confirms.
Apart from assisting the development of Zitiste, the government will also help other municipalities with similar problems as well as those needing assistance because they cannot provide the funds for road infrastructure themselves.
President of the Zitiste municipality Zoran Kasalovic said that the construction of roads in this municipality will improve the living and working conditions for residents and create a favourable environment for further investments.
The largest portion of the money will be spent on roads connecting Banatski Dvor, Banatsko Karadjordjevo, Hetina, Cestereg and Medja, while the rest of it will be used for constructing roads in villages, Kasalovic said.
According to Kasalovic, 20 percent of the total investment will be provided by the Zitiste municipality, and a tender for the contractor will be announced in the course of the following week. The plan is to complete the works by the year’s end, weather permitting, concluded Kasalovic.
