Cornerstone for construction of Biosens Institute in Novi Sad laid

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic attended today the laying of the cornerstone for construction of the building of the Biosens Institute in Novi Sad.

Brnabic stated that it was necessary to invest a lot of work, effort and struggle in order to commence works on this project.

Today’s act of laying the cornerstone for construction of the building of Biosens, which has so far been a tenant in the building of the Rectorate of the University of Novi Sad, means setting a foundation for further scientific progress of Serbia and the further positioning of our country on the world innovation map, the Prime Minister said.

This also means spreading the image of Serbia as a country that can offer innovation, intelligence and work, and not as a country that offers cheap workforce.

The entire building of the Biosens Institute will be financed through the “Antares” project, whose value is €28 million, and the construction works on this building will cost over €7 million. The new home of the European centre of excellence will span almost 7,000 square metres.

Brnabic expressed gratitude to the EIB and the European Union, as partners who recognised the importance of this project and assessed that Biosens will become the European centre of excellence, and underlined that this is the only centre of excellence in Europe outside the European Union.

According to her, Biosens is important because it can draw entire Serbia towards even more dynamic progress towards the European Union, but also for the fact that this institute employs young professionals who connect IT with agriculture in innovative ways.

Brnabic underlined that this institute is also important for the fact that it attracts a large number of young experts outside Serbia and because it motivates young professionals born in Serbia to return to their motherland.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister was presented with the recognition of a deserving member of the Biosens Institute for visiting the Institute for the fifth time and making enormous effort to start the construction of a new building.

The Biosens Institute has existed for the last five years, has over 100 open projects and is planning to hire over 200 young experts.
