Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica
According to the Beta news agency, Kostunica said, “There are three things I wish to stress before my departure to attend the UN’s Security Council session.
“Kosovo-Metohija is an integral part of Serbia, it has been so and should remain so.
“As a democratic state we have full confidence in the Security Council to guarantee with its authority that international rights will be respected, above all the sanctity of the most important principle of safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the unchangeable status of internationally recognised borders of our country.
It would be an unimaginable precedent and will represent aggression towards international rights if any resolution were to be forced and a part of our territory be severed. It is a certainty that Serbia will never accept such aggression.
“We are, as we have been until now, ready for a resolution based on compromise. That means the issue of Kosovo-Metohija must be resolved as other similar issues have been resolved in democratic European states, by providing essential autonomy for the region within the state.”
