Serbian Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic stated in a letter today to Greek Health Minister Nikitas Kaklamanis, that he supports the initiative for organising a meeting of the ministers of health from the Balkans and the Black Sea region whose aim will be to bring the programmes and plans of their states and governments into accordance with the needs of the period before and during the potential pandemic of bird-flu.
He stressed in the letter the significance of ensuring coordination while preparing for the pandemic of bird-flu with Europe as well as the rest of the world but also on a more regional level giving particular importance to the recommendations by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Milosavljevic recalled that a meetings of the WHO’s permanent committee for Europe, of which he has recently become a member as well, has already been scheduled to be held in Vienna from October 21to 22, adding that there will also be a meeting of the ministers of health within the framework of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, in Skopje from November 25 to 26. He said that at these meetings among other issues the plans and programmes of states and governments for the period before and during the potential pandemic of bird-flu will be discussed.
