Kostunica said that Belgrade and Brussels fully agree that the state union provides the best framework for successful talks and realisation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), therefore it is important for everyone to be focused on European integration and to leave all other issues aside.
Rupel congratulated Serbia-Montenegro on the beginning of talks on the SAA, adding that the decision by the EU is the best proof that Serbia is heading in the right direction.
Discussing the situation in Kosovo-Metohija, Kostunica said it is necessary to seek a solution through dialogue and compromise between Belgrade and Pristina, with respect to UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state union, as guaranteed by the resolution itself.
The Prime Minister said that it is of essential importance to take care that the multiethnicity of Kosovo-Metohija is preserved, adding that basic human rights must be respected, which the Serbian and other non-ethnic Albanian communities in Kosovo-Metohija have been deprived of.
Rupel stressed the readiness of the OSCE to continue its activities to ensure that human rights are fully respected in Kosovo-Metohija, adding that the European criteria must be applied in this respect.
He said that the OSCE will continue to actively contribute to the protection of the cultural heritage and preservation of religious structures in Kosovo-Metohija.
