Trans-Balkan Corridor strategic regional project

Belgrade, 22 February 2021

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic signed today an Agreement on the allocation of investment funds for the Trans-Balkan Corridor project, section 3, for the construction of a new double transmission line Obrenovac-Bajina Basta, worth €12.8 million.

The agreement was also signed by Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic, Director of EMS Jelena Matejic and Director of the Office of the German KfW Bank in Serbia Rudiger Hartmann, and the signing was also attended by Ambassador of Germany to Serbia Thomas Schieb.

On that occasion, Mihajlovic pointed out that the goal of Serbia is to be a transit corridor in energy, as it is already in traffic, assessing that this corridor is a regional project of strategic importance.

According to her, the Trans-Balkan Corridor means stability on the electricity market not only in Serbia, but also in the region, Romania, Montenegro and Italy.

Joksimovic underlined that in cooperation with international partners on the Trans-Balkan Corridor project, an important step was made in the process of European integration.

Namely, as she explained, the field of energy is part of cluster four according to the new methodology of membership negotiations with the European Union, where, among other things, Serbia has undertaken the obligation to improve the energy market and connect with EU countries.
