In a meeting with European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn, Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today that the beginning of negotiations on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with Serbia-Montenegro is of paramount importance for the state union and all its citizens, at the same time representing recognition for everything that has been done so far in the process of implementing reforms and introducing legality in the country.
Kostunica pointed out that Serbia-Montenegro’s strategic aim is full EU membership and that the country is fully devoted to achieving it, adding that this is an opportunity that must not be missed.
The participants in the meeting agreed that the state union is the best frame for successful leading and completion of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with Serbia-Montenegro.
Rehn congratulated Kostunica on the beginning of talks on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, stressing that there has been great improvement in the process of reform implementation in Serbia.
The European Enlargement Commissioner agreed with the Prime Minister that it is now vital to focus on the forthcoming negotiation process and conclusion of the agreement, it being an important step towards EU membership.
