The Serbian government stated today that a meeting was held between the Commission for Missing Persons of the government of Serbia, led by President of the Commission Veljko Odalovic and the Commission of the government of the Republic of Croatia for Detainees and Missing Persons, led by President of the Commission Stjepan Sucic.

Resolving issue of missing persons priority both for Serbia, Croatia

Representatives of the competent government bodies for searching for missing persons of both countries highlighted their commitment to resolving the issue of missing persons as a priority issue of inestimable importance for the families of missing persons and of great importance for further strengthening good neighbourly relations.
Representatives of the two commissions presented the current situation in the issue of missing persons and discussed competencies and standards in their registration.
It was assessed that no progress has been made in resolving open issues and that it is necessary to make additional efforts on both sides through concrete mechanisms for future cooperation with the aim of resolving them.
In order to resolve the cases of missing persons, the Serbian commission submitted to the Croatian commission available information that will be subject to verification in the coming period.
The upcoming activities, joint reconnaissance of the place of possible graves, acceleration of the exhumation process and identification of the remains of the victims on the territory of both countries have been agreed, and the next working meeting will be held in a month.
Also, both sides agreed that they will continue to make every effort to clarify the fate of the remaining number of unresolved cases of missing persons.
