Starting points for talks with EU established

The Serbian government said in a statement that starting points for the talks on the conclusion of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU have been established, and as soon as a joint programme is prepared with representatives of the state union and Montenegro, the union will be ready to start negotiations with the EU.
The starting points, previously defined by the Serbian government’s Council for European Integration and approved by the government at its session yesterday, concern Serbia’s negotiating position and propose deadlines and the dynamics of optimal liberalisation of trade in industrial and agricultural products, the dynamics and the volume of legal harmonisation, the form of cooperation in certain policies, as well as a proposal for defining a preamble.
The document was composed by independent experts, representatives of the Serbian President’s office, the Serbian parliament, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, and the Serbian negotiating team. They have all jointly participated in the work of six government working groups - for goods, agriculture, services, financial cooperation and free movement of capital, legal harmonisation, transitional and final provisions, and the group for preamble and political cooperation.
