Serbia advances in latest report of Global Innovation Index

The Serbian government stated today that in the Global Innovation Index report for 2020 Serbia advanced by 4 places and now is ranked 53^rd out of 131 world economies on the list.

This result represents one more success for Serbia because since 2014, when Serbia was ranked 67^th, it advanced by as many as 14 places in six years.

One of the most significant results in this year’s report is that the innovative performance of Serbia is evaluated as much better than expected from a country with a GDP like Serbia’s.

In the section Knowledge Impact, which measures the influence of knowledge on the development of the economy, Serbia went up by as many as 16 places.

According to the Global Innovation Index, the world’s leading economy is Switzerland, the second is Sweden and the third is the United States of America.

The Global Innovation Index measures the performance of 131 economies on the basis of 80 different indicators: the level of development and application of science, tertiary education, the number of graduates in science and engineering, the level of application and efficiency of technologies and the economy of knowledge etc.

This report was published by the World Intellectual Property Organization – a specialised UN agency, in association with New York Cornell University and Swiss business school INSEAD, which has campuses in Europe (France), Asia (Singapore) and in the Middle East (Abu Dhabi).
