Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Nebojsa Stefanovic said today that there has been a noticeable increase in irregular migrations and that it is important that in the fight against this phenomenon, the exchange of information between the Western Balkans and the European Union be even better and more intense.

After a ministerial video conference on irregular migrations on the Eastern Mediterranean route, organised by Austria, Stefanovic said that the increased number of irregular migrations must not pass without a response.
The answer may be a stronger action by Frontex, as one of the key priorities in the protection of the European Union's external borders. This year, we stopped more than 8,500 migrants who tried to cross our border illegally, Stefanovic pointed out.
He also said that it is important that, with the help of EU countries, we strengthen the capacities of our border police.
It is very important that we continue to monitor how this migrant pressure will continue during this year, but also in the coming years, said the Minister and added that there are currently about 4,350 migrants in reception centres in Serbia.
